Can we talk about how I quit driving my beater to the auction and started paying a broker instead?
I used to save $400 by driving every cheap Craigslist car home myself from Phoenix to Denver, but after 2 blown tires and a dead alternator outside Flagstaff I just pay the $650 and let someone else deal with it, so tell me I'm not the only one who gave up on the DIY haul.
Ha, buddy, I feel this in my bones. My dumb self once drove a $900 Civic from Boise to Salt Lake in January with no heat and a cracked windshield, thinking I was some kind of car flipper genius. That trip cost me way more than a broker once you add up the tow, the motel, and the four hours I sat in a Walmart parking lot waiting on a parts store to open. The worst part is I keep telling myself the next one will be different, like I forgot how bad the last one went. These days I just hand over the cash and let the guy with the trailer eat the headache. Turns out my time and my sanity are worth more than the $400 I thought I was saving.
