I used to book my own carrier for cars going to Phoenix, one broker changed my mind
For 3 years I always called the carrier directly when I needed a car moved, thought brokers just added a fee on top for nothing. Then a broker in Denver named Ray got my brother's truck from Chicago to Phoenix in 2 days when 4 carriers told me they had no trucks going that way. His fee was $150 and the carrier price was the same, so I was wrong about the markup thing. Has anyone else switched to using a broker after years of doing it yourself?

That part about carriers saying they had no trucks going that way is the whole deal right there. Brokers have relationships with a bunch of carriers so they can find someone when you keep hitting dead ends calling around yourself. I did the direct thing for years too and felt the same way about the fees. But when you're stuck and nobody will take the load, that $150 suddenly looks like nothing. The price being the same is the part people never believe until they see it. Sounds like Ray earned his cut on that one.
