Warning: driver refused my enclosed trailer booking at pickup in Phoenix
I booked enclosed transport for my 1967 Mustang from Phoenix to Denver three weeks out, paid the deposit, and the driver showed up with an open carrier saying enclosed was too heavy for his route. He tried to charge me an extra $400 on the spot or leave my car sitting. Has anyone else had a carrier swap your confirmed service level at the last minute, and how do you hold them to the contract without getting stranded?

Take the extra $400 as a lesson in how these guys actually operate. The contract is just a piece of paper until the car is on the truck. I've seen it happen more times than not, and the only real leverage you have is a backup plan. Next time, call three brokers and don't pay a deposit until you've confirmed the driver's name and rig in writing.
