Hands-on wiring tests beat simulator training every time
I went through 40 hours of simulator time last month for a new harness build, then hit the bench and found three issues the sim never showed. Real connectors don't seat like the software says, and shielding drain wire behaves different under actual vibration. I've done this trade for 12 years, so I know the sims have a place, but I'll take a dead-bug rig with a multimeter over a screen any day. The sim taught me the layout, but the bench taught me the sequence that actually works. Anyone else notice simulator certs skipping over the physical tricks that save you two hours on a rework? - Paul

That harness cert pushed me through 80 hours of sims back in 2016 and I still hit the same wall you did. The software never shows you how a Molex connector fights you when the wire gauge is one size up. My bench time taught me to twist the drain wire clockwise before soldering, which stopped a ground loop that showed up only under load. Sim certs are fine for learning pinouts, but they skip the real world stuff like strain relief and zip tie placement. I got two hours back on rework once I started trusting the physical tricks over the screen. You ever find a workaround that only made sense after you touched the actual harness?
