Heard my neighbor say chickadees only need three things

I was watering plants and she said they just want black oil seeds, water, and bare branches to perch. So I trimmed back one shrub and put out a shallow dish. Now I got four chickadees visiting daily. Anyone else keep it that simple?

That thing about bare branches is spot on. I read somewhere that chickadees prefer open perches because they need to be able to see predators coming from all sides. Took down a birdhouse I had up and just left some dead limbs on a maple tree out back. Now I got a steady stream of them all day long. The shallow water dish is the key too, they like it barely an inch deep.
