Hit 75 different species in my backyard this year... didn't think that was possible
I've been keeping a list of every bird that lands in my little patch of grass and trees since January, just a small suburban yard with a single feeder and a birdbath. This morning I spotted a scarlet tanager, which brought my total to 75, way more than I ever expected for such a basic setup. Anyone else surprised by how many different birds showed up in their yard once they started paying attention?

It's kinda wild how paying attention to something small totally changes your view of everything else around it. The same thing happened to me with neighborhood trees once I started learning their names - suddenly there were like 20 different kinds on my street that I'd walked past for years without seeing. Makes you wonder what else is hiding in plain sight if you just slow down and look.

Right? It's crazy how much stuff we just walk right past every day without really noticing it, lol.
