Seed storage epiphany after a rainy June in Ohio

I used to keep my nyjer and sunflower seed bags out in the shed, but after a soggy stretch last June everything clumped up and the finches ignored it for almost two weeks. Now I pour each bag into old 5 gallon buckets with snap lids and keep them in the garage, and the seed stays dry even after a downpour. Has anyone else struggled with moisture ruining their seed, or am I the only one who learned this the hard way?

Did you ever figure out why the snap lid buckets worked better than the shed? For me it was the temp swings, not just the rain. The shed would heat up and cool down and that alone pulled moisture into the seed. I switched to buckets in the garage too and toss in one of those little silica packs from shoe boxes, seems to help. Also keep them up off the concrete floor, that slab sweats more than people realize.
