I finally quit guessing on lumber after a guy at the Rockler demo in Sacramento pulled out a moisture meter
I was at a free demo there last month and asked why my cedar boards kept twisting after I screwed them down. He grabbed a meter, showed me the reading was 19%, and said to let them sit in the garage a couple weeks first. I tried it on my next batch of fence slats and none of them warped. Does anyone else check moisture before building, or am I late to this?

That 19% number is the whole game, since cedar here in Sacramento sits around 12% once it's used to the garage.
