Stop putting pavers straight on dirt, it's not drainage, it's a swamp factory
Watched three neighbors in Tucson lay 400 square feet of patio over bare soil last month and now every one of them has puddles that last two days. How are people still skipping the 4 inches of crushed rock base, do you want frost heave and ants too?

Packed 4 inches of crushed rock under mine back in 2009 and never had a single puddle since, even through the monsoon season. Took one extra weekend of work but it saved me from redoing the whole thing later.
