My manager told me I was explaining tech issues like a manual instead of a human
She said I needed to stop listing steps and just say 'your cable is loose' in plain English. Cut my average call time by 4 minutes after I started doing that. Has anyone else had to unlearn technical speak to actually help people?

Did you read that article about how people trust plain talk more than fancy words?

Oh man, I actually clicked on that article hoping for something useful but it kind of missed the point. The thing is, "plain talk" doesn't automatically mean trustworthy. A used car salesman can use simple words and still be lying through his teeth. It's more about whether the words match your actions, you know? Like, my neighbor says "I'll help you fix that fence" and uses simple language, and he shows up with tools. But my boss uses "leverage synergies" and I still don't know what she's actually going to do. Trust comes from consistency, not just vocabulary.
