Overheard a barista say 'just flip the cup' and it clicked

I had a terrible day last Tuesday. Spilled coffee on my shirt before a meeting. Then I heard a barista tell a coworker 'just flip the cup when you pour hot water in, it warms the ceramic and keeps the espresso hot longer.' Tried it at home the next morning. My coffee stayed warm for a full 15 minutes extra. Has anyone else got a weird kitchen hack from overhearing someone at a cafe?
