My buddy's DVD of The Room looked like a coaster, then after 2 weeks in a drawer it played fine
So my friend Kevin brought over his copy of The Room for bad movie night, and the disc was scratched to hell with this weird cloudy film all over it. It skipped through the entire first act, and we almost gave up and watched Troll 2 instead. He left it in his glove box for two weeks after that, just tossing it around in the heat, and when he brought it back it played without a single skip. I guess the heat and friction kind of polished out the worst spots? Now I'm wondering if anyone else has accidentally fixed a bad disc by just letting it bake in a hot car.
