Picked a ceramic crock over a plastic proofing box, so glad I did
Tbh I was ready to drop $80 on one of those electric proofing boxes but then I saw this big ceramic crock at a flea market in Portland for $15. I took the chance and honestly it's been perfect for my sourdough. The crock holds heat way better than I expected and my loaves have that nice even rise I could never get before. Has anyone else switched to something simpler for proofing instead of spending on fancy gear?
My grandma's old stoneware bowl from the 70s does the same thing for me, cost nothing and works like a charm. I gave up on fancy gear totally after realizing a damp towel and a warm spot in the kitchen does 90% of the work anyway.
