That sugar cookie fail at my sister's baby shower taught me about measuring honey

My sister asked me to make sugar cookies for her baby shower in March. The recipe called for honey instead of some of the sugar, and I just dumped the honey straight from the jar into my measuring cup. The cookies came out flat and super sticky, almost like pancakes. My brother in law said they tasted fine but looked like a mess. I looked up why and it turns out you're supposed to coat the measuring cup with oil first or spray it so the honey slides out evenly. Otherwise you get too much honey and it ruins the liquid ratio in the dough. I remade them the next day with that little trick and they held their shape perfectly. Has anyone else had a sticky ingredient mess up a batch before you figured out the measuring trick?
