My neighbor's offhand comment about why he never pays full price for tools finally clicked
He said he bought a $15 angle grinder from a pawn shop 8 years ago and it's still going, while my $120 name brand one died after 3. Has anyone else found that the super cheap stuff sometimes outlasts the expensive stuff on random luck?

Buddy of mine grabbed a $20 corded drill from a flea market a decade ago. That thing has built decks, hung drywall, and even mixed small batches of mortar. He's dropped it off a ladder twice and it still runs like the day he bought it. Meanwhile his brother spent $200 on a big name brushless drill that crapped out after two years because the chuck got loose. Makes you wonder if the cheap stuff sometimes gets better luck because they use simpler parts inside.

@gavinh26, but what about battery life and torque when you really need it?
