Ruined a brisket when my temp probe died halfway through

I was at my buddy's house in Austin smoking a 15 pound prime packer and about 6 hours in my Thermoworks probe started jumping around like crazy. Turned out the battery died and I didn't notice until the internal temp was already over 210. Meat came out dry and stringy, salvaged it by chopping it up for burnt ends and saucing it heavy. Anyone else keep backup probes now or am I just paranoid?

Grabbed a cheap instant read from the grocery store after that and never looked back.

Ugh, right? The grocery store ones are honestly underrated. I grabbed one of those after my fancy one broke mid-thanksgiving turkey circa 2017 and it still works fine. Does what it needs to do, no fuss, no expensive batteries to replace. So glad you found something that works without the headache.
