At the group ride yesterday, this guy kept INSISTING his chain was fine, but it snapped mid-climb. So awkward!

Man, 0.5% is already in the red zone? That’s wild. I’ve seen chains that bad and they’re usually making so much noise and skipping way before they snap. His must have been totally silent but just completely gone, all the pins worn down to nothing.

Ugh, that's the worst. I read this article about chain wear last week. Said if your chain checker tool hits 0.5% stretch, you're really pushing your luck. Sounds like his was way past that.

Wait, hollydixon said 0.5% is pushing it? That's nuts. Thought that was just the normal replace point, not the total danger zone. Means his drivetrain was basically eating itself, the chain must have been totally shot to bend the metal that much. Where'd you see that article, anyway?
