Spent 2 hours hunting a ghost shift on a SRAM drivetrain...
Turned out the cable housing was cut 3mm too short at the shifter end. Didn't notice until I pulled it all apart and measured with a caliper. Anyone else had weird shifting issues that were just a housing length problem?

Yeah but a 3mm short housing at the shifter end probably wouldn't cause a ghost shift by itself. The housing cap or ferrule would still seat okay with 3mm off. More likely the cable was binding inside the housing or the whole cable path got pinched when you tightened things down. I learned this the hard way on an old 10-speed where I cut the rear housing "perfect" but the bend at the seat tube was too tight. Check your ferrules too, sometimes those plastic ones crush and mess up the cable movement way worse than a few mm off.

Oh man, same thing happened to me with a bent ferrule that just wrecked everything.
