Update: I just found out most home ferments don't actually need an airlock

I was reading a research paper from the University of Wisconsin's food science department last night. They said for things like sauerkraut and kimchi, the CO2 produced creates a natural barrier and a simple jar with a loose lid is fine. I've been buying and fussing with airlocks for every single batch for three years. It feels like everyone in this hobby pushes them as an absolute must-have. Has anyone else switched to simpler setups and seen the same results?

Question about the torque sequence on a Cessna 172 main gear bolt

I was doing an annual at the hangar in Springfield last week and my buddy Mike pointed out I'd been tightening the main gear bolts in a circle pattern. He showed me the manual and it's a star pattern, starting at 12 o'clock then 6, then 3, then 9. I'd been doing it wrong for probably three years. How many other small procedures like this have I been messing up without knowing?

Okay, I've seen this wrong answer about forum formatting pop up like three times this week

People keep saying you need to indent every new paragraph... but that just creates a weird wall of text on most sites. Has anyone else noticed this, or is it just me?

My temp probe died right before a big cook

I was getting ready for a family thing yesterday, had a 12 pound brisket on, and my main temp probe just stopped working. It was one of those dual probe ones I got at the hardware store, maybe 2 years old. Had to run to the store for a cheap backup and guess the temp for a bit, which was super stressful. Anyone have a good brand for probes that last more than a couple seasons? I don't want this to happen again.

Finally gave those heated dive hood liners a shot after years of thinking they were overkill

My old crew in Seattle swore by them, but I always figured my 7mm was enough. Did a 45 minute inspection dive in 42 degree water last month with one and my head wasn't numb for the first time ever. Anyone have a brand they actually trust not to fail underwater?

Cleaned out my studio and found I've saved over 300 endpapers from old projects.

It's a stack of memories from twenty years of work, each one a book I brought back to life. Does anyone else hold onto little pieces like that, or am I just a sentimental packrat?
