Hit 1,000 miles commuting this morning without realizing it
I track my rides on a cheap bike computer and this morning on the way to work it clicked over to 1,000 miles for the year. That's about 80 miles a week just going back and forth to my office in Portland. Has anyone else hit a random milestone like this that snuck up on you?

and honestly, i feel like that sneaks up on you way more than you expect. i mean, when i first started tracking my commute on a basic cateye computer, i thought i'd be obsessed with the numbers but then i just kinda forgot about it until one day i glanced down and saw it hit 500 miles. now i make it a habit to zero it out every six months because catching those random milestones feels way better than chasing a goal you set on purpose. just a heads up though, make sure you're lubing your chain more often if you're piling up that kind of mileage, cause i learned that the hard way.

That 500 mile thing happened to me too but with a cheap wireless unit I picked up at a garage sale for like five bucks. I was just riding to work and back, not even thinking about distance, and then one Thursday morning I looked down and it said 512.3. The chain thing is real though, I went through a whole drivetrain in one summer because I got lazy with the lube, ended up replacing the cassette and chainrings way sooner than I should have. Now I keep a little bottle of dry lube in my bag and do a quick wipe down every Sunday, takes like two minutes and saves a ton of money in the long run.
