I found out my bike commute is way cheaper than I guessed
I was bored and looked up the AAA cost of driving per mile for my old car. It's 74 cents a mile for a sedan, which blew my mind. My 5 mile round trip commute would cost about $3.70 a day to drive. I've been biking it for over a year now, so that's a lot of cash saved on gas and wear. Anyone else run the numbers on their own route?

Ever think about the other costs you're dodging, like parking? That's another ten bucks a day in some places just to leave your car somewhere. Plus, you're not putting those short, hard miles on your engine that cause the most wear. It adds up way faster than people realize, doesn't it? I bet your bike maintenance costs look like pocket change next to a single car repair bill.

Totally get what you're saying. Parking fees alone are a huge hidden tax for drivers. Those cold starts and short trips really do tear up a car over time. My old beater used to eat through brakes and belts because of it. The savings from biking feel real when you avoid just one big garage bill. It's crazy how much we just accept as normal car costs.
