inA near miss with my old forge blower in Tacoma last month
Seems like @murray.gray might be overreacting a bit.

Man, that would freak me out too. I had a similar thing happen at an airport lounge once. Now I just turn on my VPN before I even open the browser on any public network. It's a simple habit that costs nothing and stops that stuff cold. Calling it a party trick misses the point, it's a real flaw in how basic web traffic works.

inMy coal forge almost burned down the shed because I forgot one simple thing
Man, that sound is terrifying. A buddy of mine had a similar scare with his gas forge, left the valve open a tiny bit by mistake overnight. Woke up to the whole garage smelling like propane, could have blown the door off. He triple checks his shutoff routine now, like a pilot with a checklist. Makes you realize how fast a small mistake can turn into a big problem, right?

inGot schooled on a 2005 Civic's AC by a guy at a car show in Daytona
Yeah, learned that the hard way too. A bad coil just wastes your time.

inWatched a guy at the old Johnson Foundry in Toledo get his glove caught in a conveyor belt last year. Management still hasn't replaced those guards they took off.
Yeah and @river_rivera45 is right, it always bites them. But what gets me is the insurance side of it. A bad injury costs way more in premiums and lawsuits than just fixing the machine ever would. They're not just being cheap, they're being stupid with money too.
