I had to choose between a 15-minute shortcut through a dark park or adding 10 minutes to my route on the main road.
I picked the park for a week to save time, but on Wednesday night my front light died halfway through and I had to walk my bike out. It was pitch black and really spooky. Has anyone else had a close call that made them change their route for good?

That "pitch black and really spooky" feeling is the worst, it just gets in your head. Did the whole experience make you jump at every little sound for a while after, or was it just a one-time scare that made you rethink the shortcut?

My old shortcut past the train yard was fine until a stray dog chased me for two blocks. I take the long way now, no matter how late I am.
