My coworker swore by fenders, I called him crazy, now I owe him lunch
Last November I told Dave in accounting that fenders were for weekend warriors and rode my slick tire road bike through Seattle rain for a month straight. By week three my back was soaked, my bag was a sponge, and I had to change at my desk every single morning just to function. Picked up a set of clip-ons this weekend, so has anyone else had to eat crow after ignoring the obvious advice?
Wait, did Dave actually make you buy him lunch or did you just offer out of guilt? Because honestly the real lesson here is that clip-ons probably cost less than a month of buying lunch for the guy who was right. Plus now you get to be the smug one next time somebody shows up to a group ride with no fenders and a soaked backpack.
My uncle pulled the same move years back with a guy who kept telling him to get a torque wrench. Uncle swore he could feel when a bolt was tight enough. Then he stripped the head off a brake caliper bolt on a Sunday with no shop open, and that wrench suddenly looked real cheap. @kai807 that lunch money adds up way faster than people expect, trust me. The smug part is the fun part though, because now you get to watch the next guy learn the same lesson in real time.
