Switched to clipless pedals last month and my knee pain completely vanished after 6 years of riding flats
I figured it was just my cheap sneakers or bad saddle height but after reading about pedal float and trying SPDs with multi-release cleats my left knee finally stopped aching on the 8 mile commute to work in Austin.

That's the thing, once you unlock one small piece of the puzzle everything else starts fitting together. Same thing happened to me last year with my running shoes, I was getting shin splints for months and just thought I needed to stretch more, but then I realized my arch support was completely wrong. It's wild how your body will tell you something's off in a totally different spot than where the real problem is. Like with cars, you hear a weird noise in the front but it's actually the back tire wearing down. You just gotta pay attention to the clues your body gives you instead of blaming the cheap sneakers.

Nah, shin splints are usually from ramping up mileage too fast.
