Binged all of The Bear in 9 days, then tried to watch a network drama and made it 12 minutes in
So last month I finally gave in and started The Bear after my brother would not shut up about it, and I finished all three seasons in about 9 days flat, which for me is fast since I usually watch stuff while folding laundry. Then I figured I would jump into some regular network crime show my wife likes, and I could not even get through the first act. The thing that killed me was how every single scene explained itself twice, once with the dialogue and then again with a little music cue telling me how to feel. On The Bear there is that whole episode in season 2 at the fancy restaurant where almost nobody says anything for like 20 minutes and I was glued to the couch. I think what ruined me is getting used to shows that trust you to keep up, so now anything with a laugh track or a recap of what happened before the commercial feels like homework. My wife thinks I am being a snob about it but I swear it is not that, it is just that my brain got used to paying attention. Anyone else have a show wreck regular TV for them, and what was the one that did it?
Yeah you're a snob now, congrats, the rest of us are stuck watching shows where the detective says "he's lying" and then the music goes dun dun dun to confirm it. The Bear did the same thing to me but with that episode where everything falls apart in the kitchen, now I can't sit through a show where the biggest problem is who stole the mayor's cufflinks.
