TIL the 'skip the pilot' trick for binge shows stopped working for me around 2019
Back in the DVD days I'd pop in disc one of a show like The Wire and just watch the pilot, then jump to episode 3 or 4 because pilots always felt stiff to me. Now with streaming autoplay I let a show run from episode one and I noticed I quit way more shows, maybe 7 out of 10, versus finishing most of them before. I think pilots set up stuff you need later and skipping them made me drop shows halfway when a plot turn felt like it came out of nowhere. Does anyone else actually watch the pilot twice before moving on, or is that just me overthinking it?
