A punch slipped in the rain and nearly cost me a finger

I was out in the yard last week with a hot punch, hammering a drift through a 1 inch plate. The handle was slick from the drizzle, and on the third swing the punch kicked sideways, slicing my glove open right at the thumb. Blood everywhere, I had to stop and wrap it with shop rags before driving 20 minutes to urgent care in Salem. Six stitches later, I'm wondering if anyone else keeps a dry grip wrap or rubber handle on their tools for wet days, or do you just wait out the weather?
