My old shop teacher swore by quenching in used motor oil, and 6 months later my tongs still smell like a Buick
I figured he was just being cheap, but the finish came out smoother than anything I got from the fancy quench tank at the guild meetup in Dayton last month. Anybody else's mentor feed them a hack that actually held up?
