Switched from a coal forge to propane last month, and the neighbors stopped calling the fire dept on me
Picked up a Mr. Volcano two burner about 6 weeks back after running coal in my backyard for 3 years. The coal forge was $60 and did the job, but I was burning through 40 lbs of nut coal a month and my clothes smelled like a tire fire 24/7. Propane runs me maybe $25 a month now and I can go from cold to hammering in about 8 minutes instead of 20. The tradeoff is it feels a little sterile and I miss reading the fire to gauge heat, but I'm not fighting clinker anymore either. Anyone here run both and end up going back to coal once they got a real hood set up?
