Custom knife show in Portland made me rethink my blade setup
Went to that knife expo at the convention center in March. Watched a guy spend 20 minutes testing the edge on a $300 custom piece, then another dude just flicked it open and let it drop on the concrete. Both walked away happy, but it hit me that I'd been babying my EDC for 3 years like it was made of glass. Now I actually use my Benchmade for prying paint cans and cutting zip ties, and it holds up better than any safe queen I've kept. Anyone else stop treating their blades like museum pieces after seeing how pros beat on them?

Well, watching that guy drop a $300 blade on concrete made me flash back to when I used my grandfather's old hunting knife to open a stubborn jar of pickles. It chipped the tip something awful, but the jar got opened and the pickle juice tasted better knowing the knife actually did a job that day. These days I figure a knife that ain't being used is just a fancy paperweight with a sharper edge.
