I swear game nights got worse when everyone started bringing their own tablet for scoring

Three years back at a monthly meetup in Portland, someone pulled out a tablet to track points instead of paper, and now half the group shows up with devices open for house rules lookups. Has anyone else seen this kill the casual vibe at their local gatherings?

Read something online about how scoring apps turn a social game into a spreadsheet meeting. Really takes the fun out when everyone's staring at a screen instead of trash talking.

Oh man, so true. I had a game night where one dude was literally updating a spreadsheet on his tablet between every round. It was like watching someone do their taxes. My fix is i just say "hey phones away, we're doing this old school" at the start. Everyone actually ends up having more fun when they're yelling at each other instead of typing scores. Plus it stops people from googling rule loopholes mid game, which is a bonus.
