Pro tip: Bringing back the chill in competitive game groups

I saw my friends getting really stressed over a board game last week. It took me back to when we just played for laughs and didn't keep score. What's your method for keeping games fun when people get too into it?

Actually, that stress is the whole point of playing competitive games. If people aren't getting into it and trying hard, then why even keep score? The fun comes from the tension and really wanting to win. Going back to just playing for laughs sounds boring after a while. There's no stakes. Maybe if your group is getting too heated, they just need better games, not a worse attitude. Embracing that competitive fire is what makes game night actually exciting.

Yeah, because nothing says 'fun game night' like watching your friend silently fume for twenty minutes after a bad dice roll. I'm all for trying to win, but some people treat a round of Catan like it's the championship finals. The best nights are when we're all into it but can still laugh when someone pulls off a crazy move. If you need that much stress, maybe just go pay your taxes for the same feeling lol.

That competitive fire can burn friendships too.
