Found out our gig welds get x-rayed way more than I assumed

I was reading the spec sheet for a job we did last month at a refinery outside Baton Rouge. Turns out the client asks for 100% weld inspection on anything over 3/8 inch thick, not just the critical joints like I always figured. I pulled up our QA logs and counted, we had about 60 welds checked last year and only 2 flagged. That stat surprised me because I thought we were only spot checked every few months. Has anyone else ever looked at their actual inspection numbers and found they're held to a tighter standard than the foreman lets on?

And honestly those numbers might be DOING you a favor. The more they x-ray, the more you can point to that record when something goes sideways later. Better to know you're being watched than to find out after a failure.
