Showed a green apprentice the hammer trick and he nailed it first try

We had a flange bolt seize up outside Gary, Indiana this morning and after 20 minutes of beating on it I handed the kid my rosebud tip to heat the nut and he got it loose in one shot, proud moment that made my whole week, anyone else get a kick out of watching new guys learn the old ways?

Twenty minutes on a seized flange bolt sounds about right for Gary. I had a kid named Dwayne a few years back who couldn't tell a rosebud from a cutting torch, then one day he pulled the same move on a rusted manifold nut and I just stood there grinning like an idiot. Something about passing it down sticks with you more than the job itself. He runs his own rig now and still calls me when he gets stuck.
