Debate in my group last night: should we finish a book we hate just to discuss it?

Depends on the group. Life's too short for bad books though.

That "life's too short for bad books" line really hits home for me. I've learned the hard way that trying to force yourself through a book you're not into just kills your reading momentum. My rule now is give it 50 pages. If I'm not hooked or at least interested by then, I put it down and pick up something else. There's no prize for finishing a book that feels like a chore. I'd rather read something that actually makes me want to turn the page.
