Hit 50 books read this year and it totally caught me off guard

I was just updating my reading tracker on my phone last night and realized I've read 50 books since January. That's way more than I expected, I was aiming for like 30 at the start. It hit me because I started the year thinking I was too busy with work and kid stuff to really get through a stack. Now I'm wondering if anyone else has had a number sneak up on them like that in their book club?

Man, that's wild! 50 books is a solid number for sure. It's funny how things add up when you're not obsessing over the count.

50 books sounds more like quantity over quality, honestly. Skimming 50 stories in a year means you're spending maybe a week per book tops, which isn't enough time to really digest a dense novel or a tricky nonfiction argument. Hitting a number like that just means you picked easy reads, not necessarily good ones.
