I used to speed read every book before club, now I show up having only read half and it's way better
I used to finish every single book before our Thursday night club at the diner on 5th, even if it meant skimming 200 pages in one sitting just to say I was done. Then we picked The Overstory and I hit a wall around page 300, so I showed up having only read half and admitted it to the group. The talk that night was way more interesting than usual because I wasn't pretending, and three other people said they hadn't finished either. Now I stop when I'm bored instead of forcing it, and I bring my bookmark to show exactly where I quit. Our club has 11 members and I found out 7 of them do the same thing but never say it out loud. It feels like the whole point was always the talk, not the finish line. Anyone else ditch the whole finish the book rule, or am I the only one showing up half done on purpose?
