Our club fought over one book for 3 weeks, then finished the next one in 40 minutes. Here is what flipped.
So our little book club of 7 people met every other Tuesday at a cafe in Austin. Back in March we picked a 640 page novel and it wrecked us. Three straight meetings, same book, and half the group never even hit page 100. People got defensive, one guy quit, we spent 40 minutes on page 12 of the discussion questions. Then in May we switched to a rule where whoever picks the book has to bring 5 short questions and we cap talk at 90 minutes no matter what. We finished that next pick in a single meeting, and 5 of the 7 actually read the whole thing. The big change was honestly just less book and more structure. Has any other club dealt with a pick that dragged on for weeks and what did you do about it?
