Kyoto trip brought back memories of old bookbinding ways

Found a shop there still using hand tools. Made me think how rare that is now. Do you see traditional methods on your travels?

What kind of hand tools were they using? Honestly, I get what you're saying, but tbh I see traditional ways more than people think. It's just not in regular stores. I find craftsmen using old methods all the time, like leatherworkers or blacksmiths at local markets. They're not mainstream, but they're definitely still out there doing the work. It's more that it became a niche skill instead of a common one.

Yeah, the local market craftsmen thing always makes me smile. I admire the skill, but honestly my idea of crafting is convincing an old compressor to work one more summer.

Wait really? I saw paiger26's compressor comment and felt that, my version is trying to stamp leather without smashing my thumb. Those craftsmen make it look easy.
