Spent three hours trying to get a single piece of marbled paper to line up

I was doing a simple quarter binding on a journal last week, and the marbled paper for the spine strip just would not match the pattern on the boards. I kept cutting new pieces, rotating them, everything. My wife walked in after what felt like forever and just flipped the paper over, and the pattern lined up perfectly. I felt so dumb lol. Anyone else have a simple fix that took you an embarrassingly long time to see?

Ever think about just taking a break when you get stuck like that? I've found if I walk away for ten minutes and come back, the answer is right in front of me. It's like my brain gets locked on one wrong idea and won't let go. Your story is a perfect example of how the fix is usually the simplest thing you haven't tried yet. I bet you'll never start a project with that paper again without checking both sides first.

Wish I had your patience sometimes.

Yeah, the brain lock thing is real. My buddy once spent a whole night trying to fix a wobbly table, and @anna_white4, he was about to re-cut the leg. Turns out a coaster was under one foot the whole time. We never let him forget it.
