Vent: my awl slipped through the spine last week and I stabbed a 1904 atlas, not the board
I was resewing a battered 1904 world atlas for a regular client last Tuesday when my awl missed the waste board and punched straight through the spine fold, tearing about two inches of paper. I sat there for ten minutes just holding the thing, sweating, while my pot of wheat paste went cold on the bench. Does anybody else keep a scrap of binder's board taped under the fold on old paper, or is it just me being careless?
