My aunt's tip about watering ferns with ice cubes totally backfired
She swore putting 3 ice cubes on the soil every morning would keep my Boston fern happy, but after 2 weeks the leaves all curled up and went brown. Has anyone else tried this trick or is she just messing with me?

Your aunt probably didn't mean any harm, but the ice cube thing is based on a wrong idea. People think slow melting means slow watering, but cold water shocks the roots, and ferns hate having their soil constantly wet. Three cubes every single morning is way too much, so the roots likely rotted and then the leaves dried out because they couldn't pull up water anymore. Ice also doesn't melt evenly, so some spots stay soaked while others stay dry.
