My new fern got root rot after I left it in a plastic pot for too long
I bought a Boston fern from a plant sale in Madison last month and kept it in the cheap plastic pot it came in. After about three weeks, the leaves started turning yellow and the soil smelled bad. I had to cut away almost half the roots and repot it into a clay pot with fresh soil. Has anyone else saved a plant from root rot, and what worked for you?

Root rot is kinda overhyped, just let it dry out.

My neighbor lost a 5 year old fiddle leaf fig to it last month. Sometimes the rot spreads way too fast for a simple dry out to work.

Yeah, once you see those mushy brown roots it's already too far gone. You gotta catch it early and cut out all the rot before repotting.
