Old timer at the community garden swore by eggshells for tomato plants

Alright, hold on. Crushing eggshells and tossing them in the hole is a pretty common old garden trick but it might not be the thing that made your tomatoes grow like crazy. Calcium from eggshells takes months to break down in soil, so it's not like it gave your plants a quick boost that season. More likely you just had better weather, better soil drainage, or those plants got more sun than the others. People love to give simple reasons for complicated stuff, but gardening is usually way more random than that. I've tried it before and didn't see any major difference compared to my other plants. It's a nice tradition but probably not the magic bullet.

Spent a whole afternoon fighting a tent pole that was 2 inches too short

Flex it more advice is how I snapped a pole once trying to get a stubborn sleeve on. Learned to check which bag I grabbed before I start the whole setup now. Glad you swapped it before the sky opened up on you.

Tried leaving a maple stump 3 feet high for wildlife habitat and it caused problems I didn't expect

Wait, you mean that branch actually split the top open like that? That's wild. I can't believe it held up for six whole months before it became sketchy. Usually that kind of soft rot starts way sooner in our climate, especially with all the rain we get. If you really want to keep the stump for the critters, maybe try cutting it down to like 18 inches or even less so it's not such a hazard. It'll still give birds a place to land but won't be as likely to break apart.

PSA: Don't buy those "rare variant" covers from that online comic reseller Flashback Comics

Did you check the seller's return policy before you bought it? Most of those shady resellers hide behind "all sales final" fine print because they know exactly what they're selling. The real problem here isn't just one bad seller though, its how the whole "rare variant" market works now. These guys take common reprints, slap a fake stamp on them, and pray people don't look too close at the paper stock. I've seen the same trick with "1:500" variants that literally never existed in the actual print run from Marvel. What really gets me is how many collectors just accept this as normal now, like paying premium prices for something that's barely worth cover price. Maybe we should all start sharing photos of the paper quality from our copies so new buyers know what to look for.
