PSA: Skip the fancy pruning sealer, my 2 year old maple healed faster with nothing

I cut a 2 inch limb off my red maple in early March and left it bare because the nursery guy in Tulsa told me tar and wax just trap moisture and rot. By July the wound had a clean callus ring forming while my neighbor's sealed cuts from the same time still look dark and mushy. Anyone else tested bare cuts against sealed ones on the same tree species?
