Shoutout to the guy at the Portland plant swap who said my propagation setup looked like a 'science fair project gone wrong'
I moved all my cuttings from those little plastic cups into proper terracotta pots after that, and honestly, they're doing way better now.

Terracotta is way better for roots anyway lol.

Nah, I'm sticking with my plastic cups. That terracotta dries out way too fast, especially inside. My props need that steady moisture to get going, and I can see the root growth through the clear sides. Half my collection would be dead if I switched over.

Ever think that drying out fast is the whole point? Those clear cups can trick you into keeping things way too wet, which is how you get rot. Terracotta forces the roots to actually go looking for water, so they grow stronger instead of just sitting in damp soil. I've had way more props fail from staying soggy than from drying out a bit between waterings.
