That $45 'rare' pitcher plant root was just a sad fern, my whole terrarium paid the price
I ordered this supposedly rare Nepenthes cutting off an online swap last month, and the seller swore it was the real deal. It arrived as a dried lump of roots, and I babied it for 3 weeks in my humidity dome near Spokane. Turns out it had zero pitcher nodes, and a local grower at the farmer's market laughed and said it was just a common Boston fern rhizome. I'm out the cash and a whole tray of sphagnum moss that got contaminated. Have any of you gotten burned by fake plant listings, or do I just need to stick to buying from actual nurseries only?
