Always thought those laser levels were a gimmick for brickwork

My foreman made me use one on a big chimney rebuild in Milwaukee. The speed and perfect plumb lines changed my mind fast. Anyone else switch from string lines to lasers for certain jobs?

Actually it's more of a tweak than a full change, but yeah it helps.

Set the laser up right and check it twice before you start laying block, cause a quarter inch off at the base becomes a real headache halfway up the wall. Also make sure you're working on a solid tripod, not some flimsy thing that'll wiggle in a breeze. Once you get the hang of transferring reference points around corners, you'll never go back to pulling string on tall stuff.
