Finally figured out a better way to butter joint my brick arches

Used to just butter the head joints by eye and hope they lined up. After a helper messed up a garage archway last fall I started marking every brick with a chalk line and dry laying first. Has anyone else switched to dry laying arches and seen fewer gaps?

Started doing that after a cracked arch last year and it saves so much time.

Man I wish I'd started that sooner, still have the old cracked arch scars to prove it. Now I just do a quick check every morning before coffee even.
